Well, since the beginning of time actually. Some people may think that the alkaline diet is just another fad diet, but nothing could be further from the truth.

Our stone age ancestors, also known as hunter gatherers, lived on a diet consisting of largely the fruits and vegetables that they could gather up, and smaller amounts of meat obtained from hunting. A natural alkaline forming diet. This diet was rich in minerals, a key factor in maintaining alkaline balance.

It’s only with the advent of modern food processing, increased consumption of sugar and artificial sweeteners, greater reliance on grains and an overall increase in junk food that has swung the pendulum to the acid side of the scale.

I personally focus on a more natural diet, truly fit for human beings. The benefits are clear enough to me, increased energy, mental clarity and a loss of nagging health problems.

In the last few tips we’ve been talking about reducing stress and ways to make your body impermeable to stress. Well OK, maybe not impermeable, but at least reduce the harmful effects of stress on the mind and body.

When you are under stress, you tend to burn up more nutrients. Vitamin C, B vitamins and other nutrients are used up more rapidly when we are under stress. We need these nutrients to help us handle stress effectively.

A top quality multi-vitamin mineral supplement is a good place to start to ensure we are getting sufficient nutrients. Some people may need more than this, and we’ll discuss more specific nutrients in future tips. I want to stress - top quality - when it comes to multi vitamins. Not all supplements are created equal. I have actually seen products with artificial coloring - hardly a health promoting nutrient. In fact just the opposite.

If you would like to try a sample of the formula that I personally take go here:
http://www.asktheherbalist.net/z-lifes-fortune.php

One of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to improve your digestion is to simply relax while eating. Take time to really enjoy your food. Make note of the taste, the smell, the texture. Enjoy the company of the people you are eating with. Chew your food a few extra times before swallowing.

Whenever you are under stress, digestion is put on the back burner. The body considers digestion a low priority under a stressful situation.

Try this simple tip: If you are feeling stressed when it’s time to eat, close your eyes, give thanks for the food and take a few deep breathes. This will help your body and mind to relax and may help the digestive process work better.

For more info about good digestion, check out our latest recording, Good Digestion - It’s available at no-charge for the next few days only. Find it here:

Digestive overwork -

When you sit down to a meal do you eat more than your digestive system is able to comfortably handle? Did you know that if you over-eat you put extra burden on your acid, enzyme and bile secreting systems? Eat enough to nourish and satisfy, but try to avoid the - all you can eat and then some syndrome. This may lead to more energy and improved nutrient absorption.

Underpaid -

Are you eating food that is dense with nutrients, like vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants and health promoting compounds? Many people eat lots of food, but not much nourishment. Remember, garbage in - garbage out. Don’t subject yourself to malnourishment, despite eating plenty.

Yes, of course, I forgot to mention how much my health has changed since I started alkalizing my body. I was having sever acid reflux from being on a regimen of Ibuprofen and was taking Nexium and constantly eating Tums. I was so miserable. Now, I’m completely off the medicine and totally relying on my own body to heal itself by the help of the alkaline diet and supplements.

I have breast cancer. I started chemo 3 weeks ago. Since then I have learned much about the “acid/alkaline diet. We purchased your book and I am happy to say that I have gone from 5.5 on the PH strips to 7.0 in just a few weeks. It is my hope that with the alkaline diet it will help my odds of beating this from 60% to 100%. Thank you for your information.

Testing your pH is simple enough, just place the test strip in your mouth and compare with the color chart. When you get between 7.0 and 7.5 on a consistent basis you’re in the ballpark.

Here are some advanced tips for pH testing:

When you first start test your pH several times a day for a few days in a row. Get a good average.

pH can vary quite a bit depending on what you ate recently, if you are under stress, how much sleep you got and so forth.

Saliva pH tends to vary more depending on recent circumstances. Urine pH is more stable.

First morning urine pH is supposed to be a bit acidic. Your body eliminates acids while you sleep. A slightly acid morning pH indicates your body is doing a good job of eliminating acids.

Consider alkaline water and supplements to help your body eliminate acids and move you into the alkaline range.
