Herbs for Fertility
Question: I am looking for a recommendation of what herbs to take, in what quantities, and at what points in my cycle to increase fertility. I have been trying for over a year and a half, have been to see specialists, have been on fertility drugs, etc. all to no avail. I would like to give the “natural” way a try for a while but do not know what to take when.
John’s Answer:
Hey thanks for the great question. The herb Maca (Lepidium meyenii) has been gaining popularity in recent years as an natural alternative to fertility drugs. It is thought to increase fertility and libido in males and females.
Maca has been used by native Peruvians for over 2000 years. It was discovered that when herd animals were brought to higher elevations their fertility decreased. feeding the animals maca herb helped the animals to become fertile again.
You can now find maca all over the Internet and in health foods stores in aphrodisiac, enhancement and fertility formulas. The brand I have found to be of the best quality and value can be found here.
We recently had a teleseminar on Practical Herbalism, we discussed Maca. You can listen here, the recording will be available at no charge for a few more days. (After that we’ll have a different recording on a new topic)
I don’t know what your diet and lifestyle habits are like, but you may get a lot of benefit from a pH balancing program. I have known several women with problems similar to yours, who got great results, just by following a pH balancing program. Take a look at our alkaline pH balance page for more info.
If you’d like to do a phone consultation for a small charge, I have more information I could share, but I also need to know a bit more about you.
Thanks again for the great question,
